Audacity Settings - AGP - 07-31-2014

I wasn't entirely sure where to post this thread, so I apologize moderators in advance if this is the wrong spot.

Many of us use Audacity for creating our sound effects, and recently I got an updated version, but the downside is, the settings for these effects have changed.

I keep a written record of how I use the settings, to keep things consistent, but with the changed format, it's no longer the same and I've no idea how to achieve previous effects.

Sadly, I'm not too tech savvy with the audio production know-how, and while I can fiddle away or google search to my heart's content, I just am not finding anything that'll help me get the desired effects I used to be able to get.

I currently have version 2.0.5.

If anyone out there could be of assistance, I'm looking to create the flashback effect.

Can't you use the old version to achieve it for when you need it?

It's not like Audacity is a very up-to-date and modern program to being with, so if the old one works, there shouldn't be any problems, right? Unless you have a good reason for actually updating that is.

If you're referring to the guide on how to achieve the "flashback" effect (Edit: Yeah) with old Audacity, then I agree, it would be nice to have an updated guide for it.

easy. use wind noises

like the wind is quiet and it becomes louder as the screen turns white and then you have a flashback

RE: Audacity Settings - Mudbill - 07-31-2014

That's called white noise, and that is not what is asked here. It's not the flashback itself, but the effect on the voices in the flashback.

Exactly. I've had it before where I ended up with two different versions of Audacity on my computer at the same time, but it got very confusing, because I was never sure which version I was working with. 0.o

And while it would be easy to go back to an old version and work it that way (granted, that means reworking many of the files I already work with and being a voice actor that is a LOT of files), for people who do use that new version, it would be great information to have.

RE: Audacity Settings - Romulator - 07-31-2014

I might have an older installer, give me a sec and I'll have a look if that helps :$

RE: Audacity Settings - AGP - 07-31-2014

That would work for the time being, until I can find the settings that work for the new version.

Alright, I could not, BUT I did find this Smile
http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/files/audacity/

Unless settings have changed in the GVerb, isn't this the best way to do it? https://wiki.frictionalgames.com/hpl2/third_party_tools/audio/audacity
Nope. No such thing as GVerb in 2.0.5

RE: Audacity Settings - AGP - 07-31-2014

Awesome!! Thanks, Rom!

And it basically is that simple but it's arranging the settings for the reverb (or even delay) that can become the tricky part.

Fortunately, the new version of Audacity comes with reverb presets, but for me they don't quite cut it for flashbacks.

RE: Audacity Settings - Romulator - 07-31-2014

No problem. If you can find a good config, might be an idea to share it with us. We could always add it to the wiki if you end up using the Reverb effect Smile
