This is why I love indie companies, whether they are software or hardware manufacturers. You don't get screwed just for the sake of it. I can't stand this 300$ device costing 350€ thing, it's just ridiculous and so unfair for EU customers. For the random example above a direct currency exchange would mean 228€. Now there's VAT and transportation etc so of course you won't get it at 228€, let's say randomly a 270€ pricetag. But this 270€ = 350€ is just unacceptable. Especially if you live at a country with a 23% VAT like me. Excuse my ignorance in case I said something inaccurate/wrong; I'm just looking at this from a buyers perspective. Meaning, in what price would I get it if I lived in EU or USA (average country salary excluded). Bottom line, if FG removed the games from GOG so that the prices would be fair for both them and the consumer, I'm all in for it. Besides, you could always buy Amnesia from the Humble Store which as far as I know is DRM-free.

Agreed, also do not forget GOG take 30% cut from sales. This is why I loved frictional, they always fair to set up the price.
The games already bundle and discounted to the death so not big loss at GOG customer also.
I already have the game by buying direct from FG store so it will directly help FG.

Cheers for the info, Jens. It's a sad state of affairs that these regional taxes apply where there are no regions, i.e. the interwebs. It's like applying stone-aged bartering laws to the world of Blade Runner.

I'm curious about something: if there are any future patches for TDD or Penumbra (such as this one), will there be direct support for owners of the GOG version? That is, will an update be uploaded to their servers? I'm sure the days of Penumbra/TDD patches are over, but it's just something I've wondered about when I see a game being removed from the GOG catalogue.

It doesn't really matter, pretty much on every patch FG makes two versions, a steam and a "retail" one for GOG, Humble, old FG Store etc. So even if GOG does not update it, you should in theory be able to manually install any future patches. Truth be told, after so much time I don't think the official Pigs and TDD updates are coming. Another reason why I said it doesn't really matter. Wink

Will Penumbra and Amnesia get Linux versions on GOG?
I'm asking because I highly doubt it, so I don't want to risk.

edit: made it more clear

Penumbra and Amnesia already have Linux versions available.

No they don't.

Thread is about GOG.

RE: TDD & Penumbra Being Removed From GOG by September 2nd - Romulator - 08-31-2014

Ahh - well, I know they are available through Steam on Linux. If they're available on GOG as Linux versions, then sure. But if not, with the game being removed in two days, I don't know.

I use Steam, not GOG, so I can only speak for what I know, and all I know is that there is a Linux version.

GOG only had the Windows & Mac OS X versions, not Linux. Even if you buy it now, at the low price, Linux won't be added. Both games are going to be removed shortly so why would they include more stuff?

How should I know. Thanks for the answer anyway.
Hoped to finally buy this. Hope gone.
