About the Global Rules... - Kappa048487127 - 09-14-2014

Quote:… knows that critique is at its best when it inspires betterment.
Giving bad critique isn’t good for anyone. It makes the critic sound bitter and deflates the spirit of the creator. If you have nothing good to say, you don’t have to say anything.

… knows that bad critique is just someone else being a sourpuss.
Only listen to critics who are on your side. That doesn’t imply you only want yeasayers, but unless the critic seems excited by your project, they probably don’t have your best interest at heart. Listen to the people who are cheering for you to do better and truly consider their suggestions for making your creation even better.

So, be arrogant, and don't listen to criticism unless the critic is bursting with sun beams, and flowers? got it.

So, what's this?

These rules are solid. No one in the world will ever listen to criticism that attacks them.

More like: stay positive and don't listen to discouraging criticism from unpleasant individuals who don't really care about you and your work.

My understanding of the guidelines you've quoted:

- Bitter, dismissive criticism doesn't inspire improvement and makes the creators lose their confidence and motivation. So if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything.

- "Only listen to critics who are on your side" does not mean "only listen to people who think that everything you do is amazing and perfect, and therefore doesn't need any improvement (i.e., the yeasayers)", it means: "only listen to those who are giving you criticism because they genuinely want what's best for you and your project".

Isn't this common sense? Smile
