This patch is not for the individual games unfortunately. it is only to fix issues with the collection.

Are you having some specific issue?

ubuntu 9.10 has broken the audio in penumbra overture. a thread on the ubuntuforums.org website states that this newest patch corrects this issue.

** jumped the gun a little; adding the restricted multiverse audio codecs seem to fixed stuff up.

Thanks.

again spoke too soon... seems to work ok for a little while, 1min, 5min, its inconsistent; then the sound breaks up. sound will be broken until reboot.

ideas?

Pulse audio frustrates me.
It really does. IMHO it has been causing more problems than it solves.

There is a newer version of the OpenAL Soft library that should hopefully fix those issues. IF Ubuntu 9.10 ships that lib (which it may, or it may be available via the repos) try installing that and moving/removing the libopenal.so.1 in the "lib" directory of the game install.

I'm going to be spending some "linux time" on my one box this weekend (still don't have a dedicated linux box, have to dual boot my mac machine) and am going to wrap all of these changes up and put out patches for collection and individual games.

OK, so what's the link for the latest patch? I've tried to keep up with them, but I think I missed one... Overture still won't play, locks up a couple seconds after I start it, and I have to go to a TTY and kill -9 it. Using ATI Radeon HD4850/Catalyst 9.10 and plain ALSA

Wait until the end of the weekend I'll have updated patches for Collection and individual games

Last post fixes sound issue; pretty simple solution.

author does not state that you need "build essential" as well.

First of all "Hai thar"!

I applied the last patch, the one supplied:

(rapidshare=true evil, BUT please for the love of something cute and furry or whatever gods you may have faith in use box.net.)

I also compiled and used libopenal.so.1.10.622 as hardyn above described here.

Sound still wasn't satisfactory, so I followed the advice regarding deleting libopenal.so from game dir.
That did not solve anything.

Details: Ubuntu karmic, x86_64, IntelHDA card, PulseAudio, NVIDIA - driver ver.190.42.
Somewhat detailed error description(could be better if I knew how): Sound cracks a bit and works for a while but then just dies, trying to close the game when sound is dead makes it the game hang and ssh from another host and kill -9 is the saviour.

Yes, I can agree that the experience with PulseAudio can be frustrating however it's not PulseAudio's fault, it's needed in the name of, amongst other things, cool stuff. This link might be enlightening as well for some Ubuntu users.

Thanks for a awesome game and your hard work! :3

I found this in the ubuntu forums:

-Edit or create the file: "~/.pulse/client.conf" so it says "autospawn = no"
-The kill pulseaudio by typing "killall pulseaudio" in the Terminal.
-Play Penumbra, hopefully with perfect audio!
-Type "pulseaudio -D" in the Terminal when done playing.

Yes, it worked for me. I've applied that solution and I've sucesfully played the three games without sound glitches in Ubuntu 9.10 64bits.

Thanks Jens. And thanks for making games in linux.
