RE: SOMA: Preview discussion thread (CONTAINS SPOILERS) - MrSteve - 08-12-2015

That's as decent a theory as any.

I still think Simon's memories are totally made up.

I remember somewhere, that there was a video of someone walking on the beach in the WAU's memory. There was mention that the WAU treated the memories as it's own, even though we know it could have never walked on the beach.

I don't know how Simon remember all these things, but my guessing is they're all made up.

Reality is what we think it is. Are made up memories any less real to someone, than those we remember today?

Take the androids from Blade Runner. Some of them were made with implanted memories and to them, they lived and experienced them. It makes them who they are.

Simons memories and history could be entirely made up, or created from the memories of others.

That was a fantastic preview! I loved the callout to "I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream". Smile

Of course I doubt there will be much focus on an overall malevolent AI akin to AM (or Shodan from System Shock), but it's great to hear outlets say that this game does get you "in the zone" of thinking about the terrors that AI could possibly unleash and the ethics/morals of them.

Gamersyde has posted high quality video streaming clips: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_gamersyde_preview_soma-16990_en.html

Just beware and take care about watching. While they don't contain any major spoilers they nonetheless "spoil" things in terms of just showing anything that you'll come across rather than seeing it for yourself the first time playing.

That said, the 1080p/60 quality looks awesome.

There is a actually major spoiler in the first video, which shows the game starts from the very beginning.

Ugh, I started watching that and had to turn it off when she started going off about spoiling things.

And damn, could she have read the preview in a more detached and unemotional voice? She sounds even more robotic than the ones we've heard in SOMA. Tongue

Seriously, IGN needs to find someone better because that was one of the most disengaging voices I've heard. I get not wanting to sound too excited and maintain being professional, but this was just bland as hell.

I totally agree about the IGN preview.

It sounds as hollow as the old Mircrosoft Sam voice, from Windows Millenium.

*Those of you born after 98 (shudders) will need to look that up.

I've just noticed this:

The date states that the year is 2104.
We're playing in the year 2104 confirmed?
