I'm having trouble starting SOMA. I think the problem lies with my graphics card. Troubleshooting says the version must be 3.3.0 or more, and I think I have version 3.1.0. Is there no hope for me to play? If anyone has an opinion please let me know. Sad I've been able to play all Frictional games up to this point on my current laptop. I've attached my hpl file.

Thanks!

Please attach the hpl.log file again

My attachments are N/A. I thought I knew what I was doing! I can't seem to attach anything. I think the file is too large.

I think there are newer drivers available, you can try and update the drivers and see if that helps. Follow this guide https://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-24129-post-277038.html#pid277038

However, I think it is likely you will not get it to work and if you do the performance will likely be unplayable I am afraid.

And is this because my drivers are out of date? Or because of my graphics card? I think I've accidentally modified my drivers in the past so I can understand why that might be it.

But even with an update it may not run? Why is this?

RE: SOMA will not start - Zenogias - 09-22-2015

Hi, I'm having similar problems of not being able to start up the game. All I got was blank screen for 10-20 seconds, then the error message reads: "Soma.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." But that's all I got. I'm using boot camp mac, with windows 7 installed. 64-bit Intel Core Duo CPU, E7600 @ 3.06GHz. Graph Card Ati radeon hd 4670. Please Help.
I tried playing on mac, and it works. But the framerate is so horrible even on the lowest setting. So I'd rather play it on the pc bootcamp version.

I would recommend you playing it on Mac. The graphic card you have might be to old to really work with SOMA on PC

Because the card you have is quite old, perhaps 5 years? and is integrated and not very powerful. The game needs OpenGL 3.3 and your card reports it only supports 3.1. Drivers sometimes include updates that increase the OpenGL support, so that is why updating drivers might make the game work. But even when it works it will likely not run very well.
