Yay for the open source deal Smile

I'd be even happier with faif assets, but understand that this might be impossible.

Hopefully it will be possible to provide a test environment to learn from.

Well, best of luck and as few annoyances as possible to you!

Make the code available in a Mercurial repository like Luguru did, please!

will the map/world editor src code available as well or will you make a *.py script for blender to export to the game engine?

This is a very cool move. I am a huge supporter of opensource and also make small games witch I release as freeware... you guys are really in sync with my own attitudes on indie gaming (going on the information in your blog) More developers should look at your company model... just simple things like your cross platfourm support.. you are just awesome.

I only hope your prepared for the MASSIVE amount of "hey how do I do this..." type questions you are going to get spammed with on this forum by people tinkering with the engine Smile

Being open source, does it mean you release it as a freeware?

RE: Penumbra Overture to be open source - Adventurer4Life - 05-12-2010

As I understand the GPL licence it means you can do anything you like with it.. including releasing a full commercial game.. but any modifications to the source code must be made public to the community. Also I think this means that penumbra can still be commercial and not become freeware, as the GFX content may not be in the source... it is just the engine.. (I think)

RE: Penumbra Overture to be open source - Yuhaney - 05-12-2010

So, we get the source code to be used but not the game (Penumbra: Overture) itself?
Well, I'm not going to make anything from it anyways, so releasing engine is not a really big thing for me. Smile

Yeah that's correct, it is "only" the source and not the actual content of Penumbra: Overture.

RE: Penumbra Overture to be open source - Yuhaney - 05-12-2010

OK. That's cool!
Hopefully there's someone who makes good games with it, then. Wink
