level editor and windows - ultra - 05-16-2010

Im just wondering if I can get my hands on the map editor when the game comes out. Im realy excited over making my own maps.

oh an other thing is there different windows in the castle. like different shape. some windows might be square some are rectangle. and will some windows be different colour like church windows. like this http://www.dartmo.com/photos/wheelock%20memorial%20window%20bartlett%20hall.jpg it would be realy awesome. you could have some kind of chapel inside the castle where al the windows looked like that

Editor will come with the full game or released separately shortly after.

I think if it doesn't have some kind of window or anything you may want, you can always model it.

I can't be sure right now, but I think there will probably be some people out there providing models for mods, much like it happens in the HL2 and gmod community. If these tools are as good as they seem, the community will enlarge and the efforts on modding will be greater and thus resources will grow.

thats true but then I have to make a spot light to that window.

RE: level editor and windows - Skaruts - 05-17-2010

Hmm, it seemed to me that the spotlights were the same for all windows, what changes is a texture that is applied to it, a shadow map, I think. That must be pretty easy to make.

I think it would do some interesting shadows that window in your link.

I did a quick less than 10 min work, by download the image, edit a bit in gimp and then use the level editor to do a test level with a spotlight using that texture.

I'm no artist, so just a demo of how easy you can do that type of spotlight graphics.

ahah
it looks great!

This confirmed a doubt I kept after posting my last post: If the shadow would be as colorful as the window. I thought it might be some greyscale system only, but I see it works great with colors.

GRRRRR I want that editor :p

Im afraid shadows are grey scale, but by using projected textures one can sort of fake it.

This is neat. Big Grin Valve tools don't have such nice things.

Just a thought, if a player would move that table there in the middle, the "colored shadow" will dynamically accomodate for that?

wow Im realy impressed. I guess I ask my brother model some windows when the game comes out
