next game? - psxpetey - 01-14-2016

basically SOMA is out and it was awesome I and everyone are hungry for more! keep it up frictional any idea what the next one will be

RE: next game? - A.M Team - 01-14-2016

*insert condescending remark here*

But in all seriousness they did say in their developer blog that they will only stick with SOMA for 5 years, no projects will be announced until then.

But they could make SOMA DLC (in in Amnesia with Justine) if sales were good...

RE: next game? - Cranky Old Man - 01-14-2016

Is there a way to determine if the sales are good?

RE: next game? - n0mad - 01-15-2016

Considering the masterpiece of ambience that was Soma, I'm very hopeful to see Frictional get more resources. I can't even believe how they were only 15 people to achieve this, so can you imagine with double that number ?

At one point, I was telling to myself that if this game did have better and more refined graphics, I'm not even sure if I could've been able to endure the added overwhelming stress. (that moment when you have to reach Theta through the abyss .... ). For reference, I thought that Alien Isolation was just a kid's scary book in comparison. (and I loved A:I). Soma is a level above, with attention to detail on how, and when, to stress you. Added to the depth injected by the scenario, you can't help but feel psychologically invaded. This works wonderfully well. Keep it up, Frictional.

A little outdated, but maybe give that one a read if you haven't already. Smile

You can easily see how the salesfigures depend on the previous title Frictional Games were associated with:

Amnesia: 20,000
A machine for pigs: 120,000
SOMA: 92,000

Penumbra gained them 20,000 super-eager fans.
Amnesia gained them another 100,000 super-eager fans.
Then fans confused A Machine For Pigs with Amnesia 2, so there was a LOSS of 28,000 super-eager fans, and so on.
You often can't tell if you should buy a game until you've bought it.

FIVE YEARS OMG! thanks for the replies guys! Thanks for the info I did like soma one problem I did find though that it was a little slow in pace The abyss is where I felt like ive wanted to be for the whole game!
Well I guess now comes the LONG wait for the next game. wait a minute only 15 people made SOMA? DUUUUDDDE that makes it even more awesome!

RE: next game? - Damascus Rose - 01-17-2016

I think amfp sales were because amnesia had a huge number of fans built up for the game. soma is its own deal so it doesn't have as much knowledge or hype following it

even considering, that sales number is quite impressive

RE: next game? - Striker - 01-18-2016

I get the feeling the devs prolly aren't pursuing this storyline anymore, even tho us hardcore fans are craving it.

There is one scenario that will work, but I'm glad they will prolly never use it:

1) Sell IP to EA Games, make SOMA 2

2) Turn original story into crap.

3) Profit from buggy gameplay and endless DLC's lol

I call this the Dead Space 3 / Battlefield formula

Jokes aside though I would find that extremely unlikely to happen anyways since in Dead Space's case it was built on top of a gameplay structure which could be easily manipulated (Action Horror). SOMA's one is likely not so simple to exploit short of doing a complete do-over haha
