I broke my vow and ran the demo, but only to see if I could run the game.

I played a small amount and got a very low framerate. This is most likely because of the massive amount of SSAO sampling I put on earlier. I didn't realize it at the time but I read up on some technical support stuff. I did have to update my drivers (for an ATi HD4870) so I did that.

Now my problem is that with these new drivers, the demo can't run in fullscreen.

Also, I have another possible problem, but I'm not sure. In a gameplay video I saw a player come by a large door. He tried to open it but it was locked, and to signify that it was locked, a large roaring sound played and this fleshy texture materialized in front of it. I came upon a similar instance where a large door was locked, and the same sound played, but no fleshy substance showed up. Is it just a different circumstance or is this a problem?

I definitely had the correct resolution, 1680X1050. Right now I'm on a mobile device so I can't restart my computer but I didn't try that.

So do you have any ideas about the second little thing I asked?

Okay. It just seemed very similar to the gameplay video, with the same sound and field of view effects. But to be fair the video appeared to be in a completely different place.

I restarted and tried to play the game in fullscreen now. It still crashed. BlackBox came up.

SO it first worked but not in full screen, then crashed on a later try?

I'm off to try to delete the settings and reboot now.

EDIT: That worked! Well sort of. I can now run it in fullscreen, but if I actually try to change the resolution then it crashes and I need to do it all over again.

What resolution do you change to? If you need higher than 1024x768, then try increasingly higher until it stops working.

My monitor supports up to 1680*1050 and I use that most of the time, but when I review games, as I intend to do with Amnesia, I go to a resolution such as 1280*800. I tried to change from the former to the latter and it crashed. hpl.log coming right up.

EDIT: Disregard this. It was when I tried to turn on Vsync! Just changing the resolution was fine, but it crashed when I toggled the Vsync setting. Now it crashes at the start when Vsync is turned on. It may have had nothing at all to do with fullscreen in the first place.

I'm wondering if you have any idea on how to turn on Vsync without it crashing? You've replied to other problem threads, but not this one. I demand attention! Pretty please?
