So i took a look over at the Steam threads. - Conorr - 09-07-2010

Someone was asking about Achievements..

Please do not ever add Achievements into any future realeses or even as an update/patch to the current games.

It will give the games the generic arcady feeling which will just make it like FEAR etc and everyone knows how much that failed on scaryness lol.

+1 for no achievements.

They are fun in puzzle/multiplayer games, but not in single player only games.

They always always also reveals important stuff, when they are in a single player game.

I dont really like achivements, they are a gimmick, it only ruins immersion when suddenly BLING BLONG screen flashes you has earned bla bla bla.

LOL.

The steam achievements will change your life ? I think the developers can add easily the achievements. The popup is very small in a right bottom corner, and if the developers create dark pictures, that don't disturb the player.
You don't imagine the number of peoples who buy the game if he has achievements on it.
I think that will be a great idea, and I think I will buy it if the game has achievements.

Just look at this link :
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/100pAG

More 600 players like unlock achievements in this group. I think the developers can sell more copies of the game is they add achievements.

I should buy the game now if I know if achievements will be on the game.

Please, add achievements with dark pictures in order to don't disturb the player.

Hrm, I don't see why steam couldn't have a client option to "disable achievement notifications". For that matter maybe it does and I just have not seen it yet.

You could just defer the awarding of the achievements until the end of the game. I think achievements are a fun way to add extra replay or incentive to explore. But I agree that not everyone thinks they're a welcome addition.

Not sure that they really fit into this kind of game, so I don't think I'll mourn their absence.

The concept of the achievement, however, goes against the main principle of Frictional Games. They have stated in the past that the motivating factor behind making their games was to provide a unique form of storytelling, while at the same time providing a horror-filled atmosphere and enjoyable, flowing gameplay. They have argued against making games that are solely about competing against others, or being in any way "meta-gamey."

To add achievements would undermine the entire purpose of Amnesia.
