1/15 fps even on lowest settings - parasite - 09-12-2010 ok i'll start by giving specs OS : Windows 7 professional 64 bit cpu : AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+ 2,21 GHz gpu : Radeon x1950 series Ram : 3 gig and pasting the hpl.log Spoiler below!
If you need anything more I'll be happy to oblige. On towards the description of the problem. I'm running on low, with 800x600 resolution just so i know I'm not supposed to tax the system that much. When the Frictional games logo appears it's tiled 1,5 times over the screen, so at the lowest part of the screen I can see half of the logo again. Same thing with the Norden logo, only here it is tiled vertically, so I can see half of the logo on the right side of the screen. Same thing with the background when the text appears whith guidance on how to play etc. When the loading screen appears, this is tiled 4 times on the center of the screen. The menu screen loads nicely, and works like a charm, the audio works smoothly as well. When I start a new game, the loading screen tiles 4 times in the middle again, and loads a black screen. The voiceover plays perfectly, but the texts lags slightly behind. The screen remains black for quite a while, though it becomes clearer over time, it seems to render one frame approx each 10-15 seconds, so the first thing I see is a slightly vague image of a candle, which becomes brighter and brighter pr frame. It takes quite a while to get the image bright enough to identify parts of the room. When I alt tab out of the game I can see that Amnesia constantly takes up 50% of the cpu, so I guess that it takes up one core. If you need any more information, i'll be happy to dig it out, though I might need some guidance on how to get it, as I'm quite new in win 7, as I changed from Win xp two weeks ago. RE: 1/15 fps even on lowest settings - Atlas - 09-12-2010 Disable image trail in the sanity graphics options and see if that helps. RE: 1/15 fps even on lowest settings - parasite - 09-12-2010 Thanks a bunch, that solved it =D. Do you know why image trail bogs my system down? Is it extremely hardware intensive? or might it be some wierd driver issue with that effect. Though a new problem appeared now when I was able to actually play the game. The game seems to be running smooth as silk when i turned off image trail, I'm able to navigate the castle and open doors and whatnot, but when i try to press escape to enter the menu the game just stops responding. The menu does not even appear, it just stops dead before the text should have appeared. (so potentially I might be able to clear the game in one sitting, though that does not have a huge appeal =P) It shows up as not responding in task manager as well, and remains at 50% cpu. I don't know why the image trail causes the bad performance but we will just have to wait until a patch or fix becomes available. The menu/journal/inventory crash is a very common problem that seems to be affecting x series Radeon cards. I'm also having this problem and can't find a fix but frictional games are looking in to it, so there should be a fix pretty soon. Glad I could help RE: 1/15 fps even on lowest settings - Thomas - 09-13-2010 X-series fix is in the works.
