Launch crash - Stencil buffer - brian1121 - 10-05-2010

I followed the Troubleshooting Guide as well as the information from this post: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-4519.html

The problem for me, though is apparently with the stencil buffer.

I have a Toshiba A665-3DV with Win7Pro-64, 4GB ram, i7 Q740 processor and nVidia GTS 350M.

I tried the RenderTest as well. It generates the same crash.

Any ideas?

Its a driver issue. According to the log, the current drivers lack support for most of the features that the game require.

So try again and follow the steps in the troubleshooting guide to update drivers. It is probably some driver corruption going on so make sure to uninstall before installing new ones (as the guides says).

With my previous laptop from a different vendor, you were only supposed to install drivers they provided you. As far as you know, am I ok installing drivers directly from nVidia?

brian1121:
It is not very rare for vendor drivers to be quite bad, so you really must check from nvidia or places like omegadrivers. It might be a bit of a hassle finding the correct ones, but should not be that much of a problem. The link Kein posted also seems like a good place to start!
