Demo crashes on startup - dewman17 - 10-05-2010
so i downloaded the demo for amnesia. however, the screen goes black for a split second. then a box shows up saying:
FATAL ERROR: Failed to initialize display
i have a 15 inch macbook pro(2010 edition)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics card
Whats wrong?

Can you provide me the hpl.log from your [home]/Library/Application Support/Frictional Games/Amnesia/Main folder?
What version of Mac OS X are you running?? do you have the latest updates installed?

delete the main_settings.cfg file found in the same folder as the above log, then try to start the game with the default settings. If that does not work, try to start the game with the default settings but in window mode and see if that works.

did that
it worked the first time in fullscreen mode. now it doesnt work at all, even in windowed mode and after deleting the .cfg file

Go to amnesiagame.com/#demo and re-download the demo, it has been updated to 1.0.1 and that might solve the problem.

I am having this problem on my MacBook. I have Amnesia Demo v.1.0.1.1 and it crashes on startup. I tried deleting the config file, setting everything as low as i could and nothing.
BTW I saw someone on scratch.mit.edu with that same username Jens a couple of years ago. Was that you?

No that was not me, but jens is a common name in this part of the world
Your MacBook probably has a Intel integrated graphics chip and that is why it crashes on startup, it is below the minimum requirements.
