So, SOMA just crashed my computer. - Macgyverthehero - 08-15-2016

I was trying to rush through the game because I had to get to specific parts where the monsters are to test a mod I was working on, but then as soon as the game was going to transition to Simon in the chair at Pathos 2 (upsilon) my computer gave me a blue screen.

Trying to restart my PC it was giving me two beeps until I got it to run windows repair and made it recover back to an earlier point.

Most likely this issue is on my end (as I usually experience not too often momentary freezes during some games) but I'm just wondering if it was possible that SOMA can blue screen people for rushing the game.

I've had SOMA since it came out and it has never done this to me before.

....Your computer has achieved sentience. If it starts calling itself Simon and asking how it got here, calmly unplug your P.C. AND RUN! DO NOT THINK, JUST RUN!

(Seriously though no idea would could be wrong bud Sad possibly graph card problaymo? Did you happen to catch the error message that popped up on the B/S when it crashed? As an example "nv4_.dll")

I looked in the event viewer about the issue. It tells me this the moment it blue screened:

Log Name: System
Source: Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Level: Critical
User: SYSTEM
Task Category (63)

And the keywords were 0x8000000000000002

OK...After a little digging, there are a few other people with the same problem. They are tracking it down to a hardware issue (either in their sound drivers/graph card, specifically ATI cards). Try a reinstall, maybe even a rollback of your graph drivers...if you do have an ATI i'd say its 100% THAT. I havent had one that's worked properly in years (previous one i bought lasted 3 months before it died, Sapphire range...).

I've replaced my graphics card several times in the past few years, it has only made freezing less frequent. I have a Nvidia Geforce 760 GTX card.

Why not just use the SomaDev batch to load up the level you want..?

I'm not exactly sure how do use that, but I was recently looking for some kind of "level select" thing to get to levels easier. I didn't know about the SomaDev batch, can you maybe send me a message on how to use it?

RE: So, SOMA just crashed my computer. - Romulator - 08-16-2016

In SOMA's directory, there are two batch files included. One for SOMADev, which is used to run the developer version of SOMA, used primarily for testing mods and levels. There's also another with a level select called SOMADevCMD or similar.

It can be found by looking through SOMA's local files directory via Steam, or by going here on a Windows system. I have no doubts Mac/Linux follow a similar path;

C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/SOMA

Take a look at these as well. These might be of use Smile

Alright, thank you Romulator. I'll look into it.

EDIT: Hey Rom, I got the debug stuff to work, but I don't know how to load a mod into the game with the debug features enabled.

Also to update on my situation my brother has been helping me with my computer problems and we've come to a solution that the issue was with my old RAM cards, so my brother is letting me borrow two of his 4 GB RAM cards.
