Modding Soundfiles - clownseuche - 08-23-2016

Hey there,

is there a guide somewhere that tells me how to extract and edit the SOMA soundfiles? And after that I need to install them so I can hear the altered files ingame. Could someone please tell me where to start?

Thank you Angel

Leaving my response here, but in a spoiler in case you want .ogg vorbis files. Note that it's complex and requires Linux.

Spoiler below!
Most of SOMA's sound files are stored in encrypted .fsb files. There are methods to extract them, however from what I can tell, any of them available on Windows do not or cannot extract the headers, which stops the .ogg files from being playable in applications such as VLC.

As far as I can tell, all that you can do to extract them with headers is to use an application in Linux; which needs to built and compiled from its source here. I've used said application, and it does work, but it is rather complex to set up and get working appropriately.

Go to soma's sound folder, place the FMOD file in the folder you want to rip (so character, entitys, levels e.t.c) and away you go. Every single one will be ripped into .wav format ^^

Yes very. Thank you.

But there is no way of getting edited sounds back in the game as a mod?

To play the sounds in SOMA, you will need to pack them back into FMOD sound banks. The process is detailed and here on the wiki.
