do not know how to exit after i click on an object, keep clicking the mouse and nothing happens.

You mean you grab the object and you're unable to drop it?
Normally you only grab items while holding the button down, and drop it by releasing. Something must be triggering your mouse to keep that button held down. Which mouse are you using? The standard Apple Magic Mouse? Or a touchpad?
