8. Screen goes black on game launch
Hi, I have just purchased Amnesia from steam and the screen goes black as soon as the game is about to start. ie after i set up a game profile. Im using windows 7 64bit with an ati radeon 5870 card with the latest drivers. I've tried to adjust the screen resolution but to no avail and also turned off my firewall as requested but still have the same problem. Any suggestions as to getting it to work or even how to go about getting a refund?

Hmm, I'm sure I have seen this before:
Version: 4.0.10317 Compatibility Profile Context
Are you running in some sort of compatibility mode with the graphics card? That might be the cause.
Also, have you tried running the game in window mode instead, to see if it works then.

I checked if im running it in any sort of compatibility mode and it appears that im not.
I tried to run in windowed mode and got the following message

Have you tried to re-install the game? Can you try to install the game to another location, it might be that the search path to the game has some strange character or it very long in a way that the game does not like.

Yes, I have re-installed it already. Im using steam, does it not install it to the steam folder by default or can i select a different location?

Don't think so. Ah, re-read your original post. There must be a permission problem or something else strange going on as it must be that it can not save the files for the profile and therefor crashes.
As you have the hpl.log file the Amnesia/Main folder got created, but for some reason it might fail making the folder for the profile. Perhaps check so that permissions are correct for Amnesia and the Main folder, if they are, then maybe you could try to create a new folder on your on say myuser, so Amnesia/Main/myuser/ then in Amnesia when making a new profile, call it myuser.
