Reducing map file size? - Tenacious - 12-10-2010

I've been hard at work with a particular mod for some months now, but the file size is a bit bigger than expected. I'm hovering around 200 MB right now with little more than ten maps. Is there a way to reduce the file size without making major adjustments to the maps themselves? Huh

I don't think there is.

It's standard I think for it to be 200MB if you have alot of entities, scripts in levels, and when you have 10 levels.

You're sure you're not counting in the .map_cache files? Even Frictional's huge Storage has only ~ 5 MB file size ._.

Have you used a lot of decals in the maps? They quickly increase the size of the file, in particular if you place decals on complicated geometry like rocks.

I did indeed use some decals, but nothing excessive. I did, however, add extensive detail to certain rooms and have a good page or two of scripts. I was just hoping to reduce the size since I don't want to go "overboard" on older computers.
