I have tried everything that could be related in the troubleshooting topic . i have open al installed , but what else can i do ?

Hmm, Go into "my documents" and into the amnesia folder.there should be a file called "main_settings", Open it in notepad. Where it says ( <Sound Device="0" ) Change the zero to a 1. If its already a 1, change it to a zero. perhaps even try a 2 or a 3 if that doesn't work.

Well there isnt a file that is named like that , i havent started up the game because this error wont let me . I have the steam version but even in the steam folder there is no such file too , or any other cfg files which have such a command in it .

I have a feeling this file might be the problem, tho I'm not sure where it is for you. did you try searching for it with the search thing on your computer? Jens will probably be able to help you further if this doesn't work.

That setting won't help if the game is not detecting any sound device.
You could try running the examples in the OpenAL SDK to check if they work, http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/OpenAL11CoreSDK.zip (just a quick install, run example programs and uninstall)
Do so and report back with what you got.

just opens up a cmd window with
Select OpenAL Device:
1. Generic Software Compatibility Mode(DEFAULT)

oh i was pressing enter .. well it fails to initialize . that means openal isnt correctly installed ?

Well, the game ships with OpenAL included, so there should be no need to install it anyway. If you checked the sound acceleration is fully enabled and it doesn't help, try what is hinted here: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-4313.html , see if OpenAL-soft works for you.

i cant open that link
but is it possible that openal doesnt recognize the audio card if the driver isnt installed correctly , even though i have made a clean install it still says that the card is emulated :S
