The bucket was made that way for optimizing reasons. The whiskey bottle is for other reasons, but it is semi-mistake Smile

Ok, but it's strange to see something "floating" onto the bucket, when the rest of the objects acts in a hyper-realistic way ^^

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - ennservogt - 03-27-2007

Hi,
When I tried to run the installer I got the following error:

Code:
christoph@inspiron ~/temp $ ./PenumbraDemo.sh
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

./startupinstaller.sh: line 154: [: bin/linux/x86/libc.so.6/libstdc++.so.5: binary operator expected

christoph@inspiron ~/temp $

After following Patthe's Guide Penumbra installed correctly. At a first glance the game itself runs without any noticeable errors.

I hope that Penumbra will be released for the GNU/Linux platform. I will buiy it for sure. Especially the physics engine and how the story is told have caught my attention!

My specs are:

Hardware:

Gentoo Linux (32Bit)
PentiumM with 1,86Ghz
1Gb RAM

Software:
GNU C Library stable release version 2.5
Compiled by GNU CC version 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1-r3).
Compiled on a Linux 2.6.17 system on 2007-02-11.

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - Thib_G - 03-27-2007

Another thing : changing the language in the options lists the .cfg files in ./config

Edit : one more thing : the pillow does not interract with the light, in the first level

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - alienjon - 03-27-2007

Ok, figured it out. I didn't realize that running the original file actually extracted the files themselves, thats what confused me. When I got the error I was under the impression that everything had failed. Having realized that (and at the end of the hack when the install script is to be run, I had to use the linux32 command) it is now installing.

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - thanquol - 03-27-2007

Thanqs for thinking of giving it out under linux! I think timing is right, linux is becoming mainstream anytime soon Smile

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - TitiFr - 03-27-2007

There was no problems running the demo on my gentoo.

I follow Post #39 for installation.
Apply Beta2Demo as marked in post #59.
And finally delete ~/PenumbraEp1Demo/lib/libstdc++.so.6 to correct this issue.
******************************************************************
./penumbrademo.bin: /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/libgcc_s.so.1: version
`GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by ./lib/libstdc++.so.6)
Penumbra exited unexpectedly, please check
/home/titi/.frictionalgames/Penumbra Overture/Episode1/hpl.log
for any error messages
Also try running
ulimit -c unlimited
And re-running Penumbra and try and recreate the error
then submit the generated core file or stack trace
/home/titi/PenumbraEp1Demo

After this littles technicals words its time to talk about the game itself.

Today games are so boring and with Penumbra I retrieve all the fun i had when i was playing many years ago. It isn't just beautiful like many current games but there is a real interest to play. To make it short, Penumbra is a great game. And it run on Linux and Mac :-)

I'm waiting the full version impatiently.

Thanks to dev team : guys, you make a very good work.

Have you tried the beta 2 binaries??

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - sciboy - 03-27-2007

I got it working, AMD64 Debian Unstable
Had to use linux32 to get the installer running and then afterwards put in the beta 2 files.
Still had the library issues everyone mentioned but extracting the relevant i386 libraries from debian package respository, http://packages.debian.org , It worked like a charm.
The demo is freaky as all hell and having the sound get "distorted" every now and then only made it freakier. Big Grin

Good job so far!

RE: Linux Beta Demo and Feedback - tmw - 03-28-2007

Great works now without problems under Ubuntu.

Also, everyone, turn off Beryl before attempting to play graphical intensive Games like this one :-D
