I think the roller coaster idea is overly elaborate and unnecessary for capital punishment.

I don't think it would be used for capital punishment, gandalf.
It's a euthanasia coaster, I think it's reserved for terminally ill people.
That said, it certainly COULD be used for capital punishment, yes. I just don't think it was intended that way. 'Urbonas, who has worked at an amusement park, stated that the goal of his concept roller coaster is to take lives "with elegance and euphoria".' You don't "capitally punish" terminally ill people.
I agree that the method is a bit far-fetched, but overly elaborate is a bit of a stretch, it's a fairly practical way to attain the effect they are looking for. Also, I'm pretty sure the rollercoaster concept is a bit of a draw for those who want to "go out with a bang".
All this said, I don't think this is ever going to happen.
