Unbirth - the first 3D game by Frictional. - Googolplex - 05-07-2011

Hello.
I never played the game before but now, I would like to do it.
I downloaded the game from here: http://unbirth.frictionalgames.com/levels.php
This was the first 3D game by Frictional.

The game is very great and also scary as Penumbra. Some music and ambient sounds are even better.
I wanted to see a game like this by Frictional. Why was developing stopped?
The game crashes sometimes but runs good in Windows XP compatibility mode. But you can't load a savegame.

If the geme will get a final version, it might be good as Penumbra.
I was wondering, you have a gun in the game. This is not Frictional likeWink. But really great game!
It's a shame, that it is not released.

Atmosphere doesn't look so bad, reminds me of Penumbra... but... models... guns... I guess it's good that it wasn't finished...

Looks interesting. Does anyone understand what the background story to the game is? I see from the maps the game included a school; children and a possible rape victim were enemies. Just wondering if anyone knew from playing the demo (which alas I cannot).

Also, in image six, is that a creature under the window?

If you mean at the toilets, yes. In order to start the demo run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode and as an administrator. Also, you cannot save because it is an alpha version so whatever you do is just for now. Think of it like a Justine-like approach to save games although in Unbirth you cannot save because of bugs.

To be honest, I never really understood the story, it doesn't help you at all. It is an alpha version though, I don't expect anything else.

Yes, I didn't like the gun part either.

I don't really understand that mentality. The early alpha preliminary build looks bad, good thing they didn't improve on all of that and put it into a holistic package that would have made sense and been great?

RE: Unbirth - the first 3D game by Frictional. - plutomaniac - 05-22-2011

he doesn't mean that. He implies that it is better that it was never finished because that's how FG came with the idea to make survival honor games and not shooting etc...

I don't think frictional should complete the game, but they could let us finish it. I'd gladly do it.
And that game's copyright is on Thomas only, nobody elsre.
