A question about the next game - nemesis567 - 05-25-2011

Is the next frictional games release being developed in HPL or other engine?

RE: A question about the next game - Tanshaydar - 05-25-2011

They're working on HPL3, a new version of HPL engine.
For details you can check the development blog: http://frictionalgames.blogspot.com/

I hope that engine has more features, since HPL2 is a bit low on them.

What I'd like to see is proper packaging for the next game, where each part (textures, meshes, animations, sounds) is kept in a single file. And not 13xxx files like with Penumbra Collection, for example. Smile

It is because they wanted to make game easily moddable and game's Level Editor would need to be re-designed.

This engine as said before is missing lots of features and is very limited in every way. It can complete the function it was designed for and nothing else.

We are not selling the engine so it would be a stupid approach to make an engine that does a lot of stuff we have no use for in the games we make. If you for some reason are looking for an engine with "features" (or crap if you so like) there are plenty to choose from Smile

Yea, I understand. It would require some more work, but it can be done. Wink

Besides. The engine does the job, doesn't it?
I think the Frictional games are proof of that. Smile

Yes, but you can't say that your engine isn't missing some essencials, such as cinematics and AI behaviors and improved NPC control. So, I've got to say that your engine is missing some crap to use your words, not that it has ever been a problem, but it might improve the gaming experience. I can't say neither that you've done a bad job since what happened is the opposite. Still it can do what it was made for and it is still under development. Anyways, you've made a very good job untill now and I believe you'll improve it with time. But my question was answered anyways.
