Switchable Graphics Trouble - ConBrio93 - 06-20-2011 I decided to try out the Amnesia demo. I got to the opening, the voice over played, but the screen was black. I thought this was normal. Then I gained control of the character, and the screen was still black. I started to think there was something wrong, looked online, and discovered the black screen was not part of the voice over part of the game. I did some more research and determined it was the fact that the game only wants to recognize my Mobile Intel® HD Graphics Card, instead of my Radeon HD 6770M Graphics Card. I went to the Catalyst Control Center, and switched the launcher.exe and Amnesia.exe to High Performance. No dice, the game still doesn't recognize the Radeon card. I looked around a bit more on the forums. I followed the advice to disable my Intel card. No dice, it makes my laptop display (an HP DV6 Quad) go nuts. I'm now stuck. I'm not sure what to do in order to get my Radeon graphics card recognized. I contacted another owner of a DV6 Quad and they apparently had no trouble (never had to download anything special, turn of the Intel card, switch the default, etc...) so I'm not sure what the deal is. Any help? My hplog in case it is needed. Spoiler below!
RE: Switchable Graphics Trouble - jens - 06-20-2011 You could update to 1.2 for Amnesia, not that anything specifically has been changed that could help with this. You could try to download a new driver from ati.com and if that does not help, check the HP site for new drivers. As it works for the other DV6 owner it is probably that he/she uses different drivers or perhaps some setting related to power management or similar as that is what usually controls what graphic chip to use. RE: Switchable Graphics Trouble - plutomaniac - 06-20-2011 Well, two other users with the same problem did not find a solution. As jens said it might have to do with some power options and stuff like that. The truth is that AMD does not provide an option to select your main gpu. In nvidia this is very fast and easy. From a quick google search your laptop must be using Windows 7 x64 so try these two: Newest Intel Driver(from Intel, may not work with HP though - if it installs it will make you able to play the game but in no good graphics and also not with the AMD card of course): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20037&ProdId=3231&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers Newest AMD Driver(from AMD, may not work with HP though - I don't think it will make a difference but I hope so): http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx If these drivers don't install because of HP, you should check the HP site for new drivers. I downloaded the demo off Steam. It should be v1.2. And I'll try going to HP and checking for new drivers. @ Pluto: Thanks for the links. I'll download and hopefully they will work. Ok. Now it recognizes a card called GDI Generic. When I click Launch Game it crashes instantly. Hplog Spoiler below!
RE: Switchable Graphics Trouble - plutomaniac - 06-20-2011 It is the same. GDI Generic means embedded gpu. But now it is worse. You should install back the HP driver. Previously it detected it correctly. Have you checked the HP site if they have updated their drivers? It now detects it as Intel® HD again. As you said, numerous users with the same problem have found no solution. I'll just have to give up on this game. Your card supports OpenGL 3 when the game requires 2.1 and also all Intel HD cards work with the latest update from Intel. For you though, it didn't work maybe because of HP. What laptop model do you have? For example: hp pavilion dv6-6002ev RE: Switchable Graphics Trouble - ConBrio93 - 06-20-2011 (06-20-2011, 08:27 PM)plutomaniac Wrote: The exact model, this is a general name that could represent 4-5 different laptops.
