Performance problems after combat? - MercenaryForHire - 04-08-2007 I know that combat isn't the central focus of Penumbra, but cutting performance after entering it doesn't seem to be the right way to do things. See the attached screenshot. I was getting 4 FPS in that. Before attacking the dog, I was getting around 16 in the same spot. During the combat, I was getting one. I only managed to kill the thing by memory. The big three specs here are: Mobile Celeron 2.13GHz, 1GB RAM, 6600GT. I know it's not a scorcher of a system, but look at the screenshot. Everything is on the lowest possible detail, and it's still getting single-digit framerates. Forceware drivers are the latest - 93.71 - and performance in other games is fine given the age of the system. What gives? RE: Performance problems after combat? - extra11 - 04-08-2007 have you tried turning motion blur off? RE: Performance problems after combat? - MercenaryForHire - 04-08-2007 Here's a few snapshots from the first level of the full version. Here, I've cranked it up to 1280x1024, all details on High with the exception of Motion Blur. In the first shot, I'm getting a buttery smooth 60fps. In the second, I'm getting 30fps. During combat itself, it was about 20fps. That's acceptable. In the last, I'm getting 15fps. What exactly is going on here that chews up so much horsepower? RE: Performance problems after combat? - preifx - 04-20-2007 I have that problem too! I hate those dogs and I'd like to find a "dead dogs patch"!! Before I see the dog, I have very smooth FPS, but if a dog appears, the FPS drops down to about 10, and if the dog attacks, I can only kill the dog according to the sound because the FPS is even fewer than 1(may be 0.5), I can only look at a static picture, hold down the left mouse button, shake my mouse, and wait to see if I'm lucky - the dog's dead(normally it couldn't be killed, but I killed it once). I'm absolutely sure this is a TERRIBLE bug... RE: Performance problems after combat? - Thomas - 04-20-2007 preifx Wrote:I have that problem too! Does this solve it http://frictionalgames.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=944 ? RE: Performance problems after combat? - preifx - 04-20-2007 Thomas Wrote:preifx Wrote:I have that problem too! Thanks Thomas, I'll give it a try. I didn't see any strange problems in other games with the 93.71 driver... RE: Performance problems after combat? - preifx - 04-20-2007 Hi, I'm back. I revert the driver to 84.21, and the problem remains. Now I'm just want a no-dogs-patch or a dead-dogs-patch.....OMG, this is not an action game.... RE: Performance problems after combat? - Thomas - 04-20-2007 preifx: What are your computer specs? RE: Performance problems after combat? - preifx - 04-20-2007 My computer: AthlonXP 1800+, 512M DDR, SB Live digital 5.1, GeforceFX 5900. PS: I have tried to reduce the graphic detail etc., but the lowest setting and highest setting have the near FPS rate. The game has a nice Graphic engine, it's fast enough, I think it's an A.I. engine bug or a physics engine bug. |
