Choppyness, no hud, strange lines (JENS TAKE A LOOK PLEASE) - metalhead520 - 08-18-2011

My system is as follows:

Q6600 quad core
gtx 570
4gb ram
1000 watt power supply

Now that the specs are out of the way, wth is the problem haha. Ive been playing the game just fine until the latest patch. Ive tried everything I can think of including: turning off windows aero, lowering all settings in game, verifying game cache defragmenting hard drive. I don't know what else to do, the game is unplayable now. When I go into the main room leading to the laborator and wine cellar the hud disappears, flickers back on, disappears, all when im moving around...etc. Anyone else having this problem and if you fixed it how did you do so? I really wanted to play another play through with my new headphones but cant. Please help so I can get back to being freaked out again haha. I love this game :-)

Attach me here the file HPL.log found under Documents\Amnesia\Main folder. Also, what operating system do you have? I suppose Windows 7 x64 but I need to be sure. Nice system btw! Smile

Its actually an old setup but it runs games almost perfectly on highest settings, including this gorgeous and scary as hell game Amnesia. Anyways ive attached the needed file. Hope it helps because I wanna get back to sweating and running...and just generally being scared to move in the game. Let me know if i attached the file correctly too....I think I did. Yes I am using Windows 7 64bit as well :-)

Old setup? GTX 570 is a beast, I have a GTX 460 and it "laughs" when playing Amnesia. Yes, the cpu is a little-bit old but anyway...

So, firstly make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers installed:

Now, did you update the game after having started a new game?

Yep I have the newest nvidia drivers, everything I can think of is updated on my computer, including the game. Ive tried the verifying cache on steam but that didnt help. This is just strange because Ive played the game before and nothing like this has ever happened. As far as the cpu goes, it barely uses the cores :-). Ive started a new game after verifying the game cache in steam so that should be all new and fresh play through

The thing is that you must not update the game, or let steam autoupdate, after having started a game because it changes files and the game may crash. So, if you do update the game after having started, you should start a new game. You are at the very beginning so I advise you to do so.

Thats the thing, I have started a completely new game so Im assuming its overwriting the save spots and stuff to the new patches saves, hence the new playthrough ;-)

I haven't played the game since the last update. So I tried tonight, started the new game and the problems started. What else can I do?

Uninstall the game and reinstall it. Let steam autoupdate the game to v1.2 or the latest patch and before starting do a file intergrity check. Start your new game afterwards. If still the problem is there you could play the game without having it updated. Maybe disable steam autoupdates?
