As nofsky said, Sign areas are for labeling something that the player looks at.
They were used in the original game for the Latin signs that had directions. |

You can always stack static objects in an area you don't want the player to go. I can't imagine you're having trouble with this unless you have an outdoor map. |

Change the falloff map.
