Try reinstalling the game and following the instructions at the front of the thread. Make sure you replace the game files with the patch.

Make sure the "Dual-Core Optimizer" from AMD isn't in your Add/Remove Programs list. It might be there if you upgraded your CPU or another game silently installed it.

Sounds like a problem with whatever OEM driver your manufacturer provided. Make sure there isn't a newer one or try the Nvidia drivers.

It sounds like you have mixed versions of driver files installed on your system. That can happen if you install a new video driver on top of the old one. You can fix by doing a clean driver install. ...

If you're using the "radeon" (open-source) driver, try the official closed-source driver from ATI (fglrx). Also be sure to turn off Compiz before you start the game. The various Linux drivers for ATI...

What about people experiencing the problems on XP? XP doesn't have a hardware desktop composition mode to turn off.

You should be able to run it based on the requirements, but it may be slow. See how the original free version of Penumbra runs on your computer.
