Might say something wrong because I only provided assets for the terminals, no coding, but pretty sure it is an animated distortion layer/texture on top of the screens. Some glitches are also flipbook...

No need, better play some Silent Hill if you haven´t :D . Alien endings are humorous bonus endings that can be found in the games, so there is no real importance to them.

Yup. Cycles is nice for being freeware. Latest few updates beefed it up quite significantly. Still a few rabbit holes in it though.

Really depends on what you need it for and personally I think even "taste" comes into play. For general use I always take Blender because appearently I have a shitty taste in user interfaces and love ...
