A Fire Entity?

Is there a entity that is basically just an ocean of fire? Or even a small amount of fire that I can scale?

If there is, would it be a problem (even in a small map) if there were a large amount of these entities getting set to active? Thanks.

RE: A Fire Entity?

I believe any kind of torch set in large quantities will cause the game to stutter. But look in the "lamp" category on Entities in the level editor, I believe the first one is a standalone fire.

RE: A Fire Entity?

Oh, thank you. I will try a stress-test to see how well my idea will work. Rep for you, good sir. I always thought that entity was literally a big sphere of coal.

EDIT: I tested it and it doesn't seem to cause too much lag, but the fire looks really strange, because I cannot scale it or it looks even worse. Is there any way to make the fire bigger?

RE: A Fire Entity?

Is the ratio of all three sizes equal to 1?

I mean, at first it is X-1, Y-1, Z-1.
So if you change it make sure it's X-2, Y-2, Z-2 and not something like X-10, Y-1.21, Z-7.25.
A ratio of 1 should look okay I believe.

RE: A Fire Entity?

It looks like the fire splits, and one half is way over to the left, and the other is diagnol from it, further away as well. Also, the actual coal looking thing gets bigger.

That is strange.
Try scaling the torches and setting the torche's body underground so only it's fire can be seen above the ground.

RE: A Fire Entity?

The actual fire particles still split. I found a good fire particle system, the blue fire in the orb room. Only problem, it's blue. Any way to change that?

Or any other solutions all together?

EDIT: I see YC's post now. I'll mess around with the particle editor.
Okay, I attempted to change the material file for the fire in the orb room to normal, red fire from the blue fire. Now I got a mix of both the materials! Help?

RE: A Fire Entity?

Just place a "ps_fire_orb_room" click it and change it's color to:
R: 1
G: 0.435
B: 0.01
A: 1

That should look good enough. I hope this helps.
