Personally I've been using Sony Vegas for years, it's quite great. If you want to do more flashy effects I'd reccomend also looking at Adobe After Effects.

The "opening the door into video" thing would require a editing program that supports green/blue screening, and from what I've seen of your videos and what you've said here I get the feeling you probably don't. Like Traggey said, you should try getting a better editing program before you try something like that.
