I always come out as libertarian socialist on these, and that's exactly where I am politically.

re: the US elections-

The most depressing thing is that the mainstream candidates do not talk about the things that are really important to me:

-Reigning in financial sector misconduct
-the growing national security state and it's assault on civil liberties in the name of the "war on terror"
-the horrible "War on Drugs" and the humungous prison population, issues connected to this.
-the constant drone bombings, changes in law that make it ok to assassinate American citizens etc.

The mainstream candidates are exactly the same on these issues, so these do not get discussed..yet on the other hand, in this country third parties have not a hope in hell of doing anything, except occasional influence on local politics. I always have a hard time because if I had to pick I would vote for Green Party, maybe even socialist candidates..but it has little or no effect here, so it feels like either way your vote is squandered..I just voted the other day..what an underwhelming feeling.

Basically electoral politics is a joke, the only real way to effect things is organize people and demand change.
