All the examples you posted in the above post are line-crossers.

If it hasn't crossed this objective line yet, anyone who is offended are over-reacting.
I can agree with that, but I base my argument on people who have actually experienced this, my sister included. And there's this site filled to the brink with examples and pictures taken by actualy vicitms, it's nothing to take lightly, it's a very serious issue. http://fatuglyorslutty.com/

"Ima rip your neck open and fuck the gaping hole ald finish off in your eyes", is that a joke? I'm asking everyone here, not you personally kreekakon, I'm merely showing the seriousness of the issue.

Yes, if you base your points on the premise that woman are getting these type of messages from other gamers, then I'd very much agree with you! All those are very much punishable offenses, and definitely not jokes (Unless of course it's presented in an obviously joking manner)

What I think your mistake here is is that you seem to be over-looking that most of us are just skeptical whether the rule will be over-extended into simple trash-talk as well, just because a female gamer couldn't take a harmless joke/trashtalk that meant no harm. THAT would be misusing the rule.

RE: Halo 4 permaban for sexism

The thing about "reverse sexism" is nothing but pure bullshit. Why?

Mostly because it doesn't exist.

Throughout the world, women are beaten, harassed, threatened, raped and killed everyday, and in more than half the cases the perpetrators doesn't get any form of punishment.

Ranging from brutal murders due to "honor culture" to the objectifying of women through western pornography industry, women get treated like less worthy humans.

And nobody hardly does anything.

As I said, I agree that there's a line between joke and insult. The point I am making is that the magnitude of cases where people get offended is larger than the cases where people take it as a joke (and most of the times they just don't have the courage to stand up, or that they are in fact guys), and that is the core of the problem, people get offended, especially women, there's no question about that.

And I can see your point that the "problem" where people get banned because they "trashtalk", while in fact they shouldn't have opened their mouth in the first place. Want to trash talk? Then keep that to tournaments where's it's been allowed by policy, but for the sake of everyone, don't insult people (joke or not) over the internet where there are strangers and you never know who will get offended or who will shrug it off. It's not hard to just be nice. And if you get banned because you insulted someone (even if it was intended as a joke) then the joke's on you, you should've known better.

Off course I am, and I'm proud of it! Smile

The level of disagreement I have for this is too high to handle. While they don't get CORRECT punishment, they do get it. In my opinion, any male along these lines deserves to have his penis chopped off with a dull axe.

As for Nakidno, I am aware that some insults cross the border into harassment. But it's happen towards male vs male as well, not just male vs female. Mainly because men don't take it seriously. I'm not saying women do, but in a general sense, I'm sure you can agree with me that it does, otherwise this would not be happening in the first place. I, for one, have had opponents who had spewed some rancid statements, but I didn't take it seriously and if it went TOO far, I had reported them. So I have to say it's fair in the gaming world when it comes down to gender bias in insults. I understand the difference between insults and harassment. I'd just hate to see this "power for females" cause a player to get banned for saying something like "Get back in the kitchen" when it's equally offensive saying to a male, "Grow some balls". I just hope 343 sees the difference and doesn't go on an absurd banning spree.

TL;DR: There is a difference between insults and harassment. But I don't want to see people getting banned for the simplest things said. But it's nice to see that they are trying to better the community. http://fatuglyorslutty.com/ is a perfect example of harassment that I do NOT condone at all. I am for this if these are the reported examples.

This is going to seem like a dick reply, but it's probably the truth:

Do you have any idea how boring that would be?

Not making any jokes at all would greatly take away from the fun of a game. It's reflects the fun of competitive nature, and it's all just made in good fun without intention to hurt most of the time.

As I said before, and you agreeing, there is a fine line between jokes, and insults. If you're really that worried, then keep your "talk" within line, and unless someone is super over-sensitive they'll take it in good fun.

If they still get offended after that, then I'm sorry to say this, but they really are being overly dramatic to have been affected, because any joke which is kept behind such a line will never be perceived as insulting to a person with common sense.

Since one means no harm, one could always still apologize if one runs into one of these types of people if it really bothers them that they accidentally offended someone..

That has been adressed (male vs male), the thing here is that sexism hasn't been addressed as insults until now. And a lot of people oppose it for different reasons.

It would be boring to the people that are used to insult people but a relief to those who are fed up with insults. I respect your opinion but it seems we are just going back and forth with this specific topic. Tongue
