So, what's going on here? Currently playing Resident Evil: Remake for the Gamecube so I thought I'd drop in.That Cryostasis looks pretty nice. I havn't backtracked the tread more than the last few pages, the site was pretty nice too. It seems very similar to Penumbra, both graphically (although it looks better) and the enviroments.
It's Penumbra meets Bioshock, pretty accurately.

Oh, it's been released aswell. Didn't realize that. Only in russian, though?

 Worst regards, Kejdane.205 characters remaining.

Now yes, only in Russia but soon in Europe. But to play it you must have VERY good hardware: I play on GeForce 8800 GTX on max resolution and effects - no lags, but others have troubles on othre machines, especialy on Radeons: green (not blue) textures etc. I hope it would be patch soon - I also have troubles, but not critical

I'm playing through Half Life 2 Survivial Horror mods right now. I found one that is very great, Get a Life (Silly title I know). The mod is more like a real game, It's long, the story sucks, but it's scary.

I don't mean to raise a thread from its rightful slumber, but I have to say that I just, myself, got through Get a Life and I have to admit it is fairly awesome and creepy. I found the story to be kinda confusing (I guess like you said--it sucks), but I did get that creepy-crawly feeling when travelling through some of those areas. It didn't scare me out of my pants, but it was more the feeling of dread for Alex that really drove me into the mod. It was very well done.

But as for other games that might be Penumbra-esque, I also noticed that someone mentioned the "Clock Tower" game. I know there's a Playstation version of it, but the SNES version is the only one I've played, and that game was fairly creepy as well. Some of the details and scenery are kinda bland, but there's a nice combo of "jump-atcha" sequences, "run away!" sequences, and "Okay, I have a feeling I should be wetting myself now, but I have no idea why!" sequences, which EVERY horror game should have. Penumbra is really the first horror game I played (and which actually introduced me to the awesomeness of both Lovecraft and to the horror genre in general), so I tend to compare every horror game to Penumbra. If it ain't like it, it ain't no good to me (as a horror game, anyway).
