Since he most likely has amnesia, or has forgotten the recent past, his children might actually be long dead and his last memories of them is that they are alive but might be in danger.
This whole children deal confuses me. I think I will assume for now that the children made such an impression on him that he decided to adopt them all. Though it is possible that he had one or two biological children that he loved dearly, and was very neutral and did not care about the others and just gave them food in cold exchange for workforce.
Confuzzling! But yush. My best guess is that the notes we have seen so far are based on extremely strong impressions on Oswald, and that he not only grew a big fondness of the children, but that he also was completely crushed and drained by losing them.

Haha, you know, I was thinking the exact same thing once I read about the upcoming event. I think it is epic that they are taking their precious time to answer some questions. I think it is definitely going to sparkle some hype for the game, while not giving too much away.
