It's nothing as new as changing the protagonist's age, race, job, personality, hair color, how rich he is, etc. They're all just aspects that come together to form a character. Just because it's different doesn't necessarily will mean it'll be better, or even that different for that matter. It may be a bit different in certain cases, but some aspects will affect more than others, and I really think gender is one of the least influential in doing such a thing.

In my opinion, it should be a male anyway if the game revolves around horror as we all know woman are more reluctant to be frightened and are weaker than men and these games are based on survival. Not sexism, fact - let the flamewar begin!
Oh sweet jesus don't make me go through this again D:

Why people won't make a game where you could change gender, color and species in the fly and it would affect the gameplay.

Just to throw this out there, my full conversion of which I have not released any information on whatsoever will be featuring a FEMALE as the lead character. I hope this floats everyone's boats.
How dare you make something more original and cater for the less important 40% of gamers! GOSH!!
All joking aside, you got me excited for this CS.
Now I can't get excited for a CS cause it's got a girl in it?

Variety is good, and again : It's not just because you can play as a female, I'm just as excited to play as a toddler in a survival horror because I'm not playing as a (yet another) 20-40 year old full grown man.

Ok then let me ask you a question then which I think can get my point across better: How different did you feel playing as Justine than playing as Daniel?
