Empathizing with the amount of guilt that must be crushing him, not his actions.

For example, there's the old trope of using the brutal death of a child (usually female), to move some guy's story arch forward (looking at you too, Call of Cthulhu). Now, TDD, AMFP and CoC are some of my favorite games ever, but they still had some elements that made me raise an eyebrow.
Hyper-sexualized elements and the use of rape, usually for the same purposes annoy me, as well.

Please elaborate.

Mostly this:

The rest of the article isn't really relevant to the topic, but the section I linked is.
Sorry I don't have time for a expanded explanation, but if you want I will when I get the time.

I understand what you're saying and I agree, but I just fail to see how Amnesia: TDD and AMFP did any of the the things mentioned in the article. You never got to see the scenes where Daniel tortures the woman/women in the game, so there's no way to no if it was in any way sexualized.

I think she means the whole little girl murder face heel turn thing. That part of the plot did feel kind of contrived. I didn't like it much. Tongue

That is what I meant. Thanks! Funny how people who speak the same language still need a translator sometimes.

im guessing that was from amfp since i can't remember anything like that from tdd but like how in anyway does rape in the context of how it was used in tdd fit the description in that article in anyway at all

I was referring to how it was used in other games (ie Duke Nukem Forever/Metal Gear whatever). I only mentioned TDD and AMFP because of the child murder trope.

I'm going to have to agree with Chronofrog here actually, I didn't think Daniel killing that child was an unnecessary part of the plot at all.

But that whole thing makes Daniel even more dense than it would seem otherwise. It's perfectly ok to kill seemingly unlimited amounts of adults to get rid of the shadow, but when a kid is being killed, he flips, despite the shadow behind his back. He's still a gullible psychopath, yes child-killing is the worst of the worst but I just think it was way too contrived and was more part of a catalyst for the plot instead of having an actual meaning to it other than driving the plot forward.

On the contrary, I thought Amnesia had a very strong theme of the consequences of absolute obedience, and Daniel realizing it hammered it down to the player.
