RE: $18 on Frictional Games Store and only $16 on STEAM

Steam has been really supportive with the release, getting the demo up in time and starting to take pre-orders. So we did not want to go and cry that they had 10% more discount and even more important, we could not image that the option for people to get the game cheaper would be something to complain about.
So sorry about that, we do the best we can and what we think is right, but I think it is safe to say we have our hands full, and going down into the details to notice and control everything is impossible for us.
Thanks for the reply, and YOU HAD A 50% DISCOUNT? God, I wish I had known about it then. Bah, being poor sucks.

If you're jobless and 2 dollars make a difference, then why did you buy the game?

While I can't speak for anyone else, the two USD difference is more me facepalming at not waiting.
Like, it's not THAT big a deal, but, you never know, I could run into a financial crisis someday and be two dollars short of saving my life, and it'll be because of this.
...riiiiight.

On a side note, if you do run into a financial crisis... I have a question...
Do you have what it takes to survive?

True, but I'm addicted to video games.
And no, in the inevitable zombie swarm I'll be one of the first to die.

RE: $18 on Frictional Games Store and only $16 on STEAM
If you hadn't noticed, the "discount" is what makes STEAM work. Earn the money.
Today you see a release at 49 euros. A theft in a bright day. No retail game has this price. Yet, they have the courage to show it right into your face.
Then, in a couple of months, the same game begins to collect dust on the shelves of retails, and the number of downloads on steam never becomes worth of note.
What happens? Enter the discount. 20% less. 50% less for a day. 25% plus a doll!
OR
the same game stays at ****ing 49 euros for months. But with numbers comes choice and STEAM has them all, so it strategically applies discounts wherever a game may sell more at a lower price and cover the losses of another one that won't sell even with 90% of discount.
in two words: Steam survives by managing the discounts and it's out of the hands of the publishers, who agree on it the moment they sign the agreement to put the game on their servers for download.
In fact... you will find a STEAM financial manager sitting at a chair in the middle of a dark chamber at the center of AMNESIA.

RE: $18 on Frictional Games Store and only $16 on STEAM
It was $10 [USD] back in the early days of development. I couldn't pass up that deal considering how freakin' awesome the other games are.
$2.00 in some countries IS a lot of money - you're going to see price differences no matter where you buy games - one store might have it on sale for 50% off, while an online digital distributor [STEAM, D2D, etc] might have it for 30% off, and an auction site may have it for $12.99.

RE: $18 on Frictional Games Store and only $16 on STEAM
Let's put it that way (if i recall correctly), in Frictional store you will get normal download with cd-key AND a steam-key. So, for 2 more bucks you can have a "stand-alone" game and a Steam version to choose from.
If i'm wrong, sorry

That is interesting - why is Steam allowed to set any discount they want? Do they buy game copies in advance like a retail store? I always thought Steam would just offer a sales plattform like ebay.
Can you elaborate on that? I'm curious on how this works.

I doubt they are allowed to.
