Question  [Solved] Model issues

Hi!
There are some issues with weight painting my mesh. Whenever I do it the mesh becomes "destroyed" - looks like the model has swallowed a grenade.

How should one go about correcting the weights on a model?

------- old part -----------
Problem 1 (solved):
I have been trying to texture a tree. In maya everything looks fine. I have one texture for the leaves and one texture for the stem of the tree. I have tried to follow the: http://wiki.frictionalgames.com/hpl2/tut...loutsource
for creating objects with several parts/textures.

It comes out like this (no leaves on it):

.jpg   tree_example.JPG (Size: 67.04 KB / Downloads: 323)

Any suggestions for me?

-- Noticed another error --
Several entries of (in modelview.log):
ERROR: Bad normal 70504 in mesh C:/Program/Amnesia - The Dark Descent/redist/models/data/viewer/pinktree/pinktree.dae! Length is not 1. Will not cache file!

Problem 2:
Another model (one of the amnesia justine models) is duplicated when I export it. Both skeleton and mesh. All I have done is to add a very simple skeleton.

One of Hermoor's models (the girl) has the same issue. When I export it the model recieves two extra "skeleton arms".

I would be very happy if someone could help me with issue 1 or 2 Smile

I have no idea how to help, but that looks exceptional!

RE: [Help] Several different custom model issues

Make sure the name of the leaves inside of the model (ie: the model in Maya) is named exactly the same as the texture subname. So if the model is called tree.dae, and the texture is tree_leaves.dds, make sure the leaves are called "leaves". Also, for Maya, I find that I have to put in the name for both the first and the 2nd tab on the right (so you would have to rename leavesShape to leaves).

As for the normals, well that can happen when the texture is wrong, but it could also be a bad normal (invisible vector perpendicular to a poly), I doubt it though. I think it says that simply because the polys aren't showing.

Can you post a screenshot of the duplication? Was it just the arms or everything?

RE: [Help] Several different custom model issues

Update on problem 2:
Justine model:
"Duplication" was a nooby mistake. Imported my model into my already open project of the model, causing "duplication". However the exported model looks as if it had swallowed a grenade. The mesh is all "explody".

What I have found on the matter:
Export model without weight painting: Looks all fine.
Export model with weight painting: Mesh ruined.
Can you try to weight paint something and observe the outcome?

As for the duplication on the girl model I think I have sent you the Maya file a while ago. Try exporting it and examine the results.

Edit: Noticed that it sounds like some sort of homework. I am however grateful for your help Smile

Do you mean vertices go crazy in Maya or in the viewer?

RE: [Help] Several different custom model issues

k its a problem with the weight normalization...
try: skin/edit smooth skin/weights normalization
after this the mesh looks normal, i get after this a not "round" animation... looks like mr.bigzy said choppy and the keys are looking to me not like i set them
i need more testing

@MrBigzy they go crazy in modelviewer.
i noticed right now, when i turn on: skin/edit smoooth skin/disable weight normalization than it looks messed up like in the modelviewer

Oh, yea, I always have mine normalized as interactive. Hmm.... I'll test some stuff in a bit.

RE: [Help] Several different custom model issues

Yay, progress on the tree. Thank you MrBigzy. Now I've got a new question. How do you create a transparent .dds file? I'm looking around the internet at the moment for some suggestions. I need to create a transparent background around my leaves picture.

Nice that you are checking the weight painting out Smile
Hurray! The tree is done! Big Grin I managed to solve it.

Now onto my next adventure in learning modeling.
