Well too bad, they did not choose to use Humble as a pre-order store for SOMA, you'll just have to live with that. Who knows, the game might show up on humble later down the line.

Although this doesn't affect me in anyway, I'm shocked to see no support for Intel integrated graphics. It's a risky move by a small developer.

Previous verisions of the HPL engine has lacked proper support for it aswell, and that seems to have worked out fine.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

It's mostly the bad Intel drivers when it comes to OpenGL.

I am not certain what OpenGL version the renderer requires. I remember Jens mentioning something like 3.3? If that's the case, I suppose all Intel cards after Ivy Bridge (2500 or 4000+ , OGL 4) should work. So, Sandy Bridge (2000, 3000 , OGL 3.1) and earlier will not work.

But, unofficially. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, you knew the risks so don't complain now. That kind of mentality.

Quick favour:

Spoiler below!
Operating System
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Pentium E2180 @ 2.00GHz 41 °C
Conroe 65nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz (6-6-6-18)
Motherboard
http://www.abit.com.tw/ F-I90HD (ATI RS600-SB600) (Socket 775) 35 °C
Graphics
HP w1907 (1440x900@60Hz)
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (Leadtek) 62 °C
Storage
465GB Seagate ST3500820AS ATA Device (SATA) 30 °C
Optical Drives
LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1S ATA Device
Audio
High Definition Audio Device

I'm getting a 64 bit soon, excluding that, will my computer be able to handle SOMA?

I see that you are correct. I thought Amnesia worked on Intel graphics. Nevermind then! I hope SOMA is as great (or better) than Amnesia and I wish Frictional continued success.

This is really hard to say. Your graphics card is powerful, but very old. Your CPU is slow and old, RAM is OK. Even if it would run, it's not an experience. You should get a new PC for 500 euros.

Ah, this reminds me of 2013, before the Pigs came out.

Anyway, I wouldn't be concerned over the architecture. I would be very surprised if SOMA actually/truthfully requires more than ~3GB of memory and thus realistically a x64 operating system.

The 8800 GT was a damn good card back when it was relevant. I had one, good days. Not anymore though. Also, according to Nvidia specs, it support OpenGL 2.1 and not 3 or later. But latter driver releases added software 3.3 support. It could work but it's a risk.

The CPU will work but don't expect anything great. Especially when it comes to settings that rely on the cpu more than the gpu.

That's why a small tech demo is always appreciated. It doesn't have to have game maps, just something to test whether the game can be run on any given system. Even a small rendering test based on SOMA would work. But I digress, this is not my choice. Smile
