Nice tips. Although I have to admit that I never used any flares, beef jerkies or dynamite in Overture. I only used my glowing stick and just sneaked past the dogs, which was easy (on normal difficulty).
Most of the time it's actually quite safe to use the glowing stick or flashlight. In many areas you can be quite sure that there won't be a dog (like the small rooms).

Quite true, but once a dog spotted my flashlight beam from another room away and growled, giving me time to hide, but it knew I was there. I just take all precautions. Better safe then sorry, they say.
