[REQUEST] Custom Models?

Okay so here is my issue. im getting more serious in my tinkering around with this, and right now my goal is to get some custom models. So basically what i want to do is take a model from elsewhere. and get it in game. I have Maya and 3ds Max but just the whole process confuses me. I've read the tutorials over on the dev wiki, and they dont help me too much xD.

Anyone know how to take a model. put it into 3ds max or maya and then get it in game.

im not good enough to make models myself so im not even going there xD
