Personally I like Penumbra better... it did not have the fancy effects that Amnesia has and it still manages to play well. Penumbra uses HPL1 and the physics (for me any way) work a lot better... for instance in Amnesia if you pick up a mattress it will blow up (see for yourself :p) sometimes it will and sometimes not. In Penumbra there were pretty much no bugs at all and everything was smooth. Amnesia was fun but Penumbra will always be better imo.

I actually don't really disagree. Penumbra has a very classic feel to it and it will always hold a special place in my heart. All I was trying to say was from a game design standpoint Amnesia really perfected a lot of the concepts introduced in Penumbra, which doesn't necessarily mean it's a better game, just that I found it to be a much more polished experience. In any case this was not meant to be a comparison thread. I only mentioned Penumbra to illustrate how the engine has evolved over the years and to give a little background.

Also to change the subject, I have a thing for Lovecraftian sort of themes and self-induced amnesia I found to be really cool and definitely not something you see that much, which is why I think Amnesia is told in a far better way and for some reason I like the plot a lot more.
