I don't see how being able to look at a model (like you could normally) is so stressful on the game itself.
Of course they would have wanted to add such nice little features, but they had a lot more important things to worry about when they made Amnesia. There's an article on The Escapist where Thomas writes about their economical situation when they made Amnesia, it was so close that Amnesia wouldn't have been released.

But yeah, being able to see the characters body would be a nice feature in their next game. But then I'd like to see them do it more like they did in Mirror's Edge and perhaps ArmA, and not like it's done for example: in Halo, where you look down and only see your legs and not the body. I mean, you'd have to lean forward like crazy to only see your legs and not the rest of the body!
