Danny Boy's right on that one, Chrono, although I don't agree that it's a sign or arrogancy, its more a sign that that person doesn't quite appreciate what films have to offer that books do not, or at least they are people that prefer plot/narrative to visual/audio presentation and acting/direction
Film adaptations are their own thing, preferring the book is totally valid - there are some of sci-fi books that I 'prefer' (in some ways) to their film adaptations because one of the things I love about sci-fi is increadibly in-depth, well explained concepts and plots, which is something that films cannot do as effectively - but at the same time, the films often have really excellent set and audio design, which is awesome in it's own right, and which a book cannot do.
