Right, the engine is not very powerful, but it requires a lot of strong hardware to run on high settings. Even Amnesia runs extremely slow when playing with 32x (or more) SSAO samples. And HPL3 even got a lot of additional features.

An engine doesn't need to be powerful - the best games have totally outdated engines. But it's not just about the graphics. There is other stuff like the physics that needs a lot of hardware.

Consoles, even the "Next-Gen's" are just powerful like a 500$ PC.
