RE: $18 on Frictional Games Store and only $16 on STEAM
If you hadn't noticed, the "discount" is what makes STEAM work. Earn the money.
Today you see a release at 49 euros. A theft in a bright day. No retail game has this price. Yet, they have the courage to show it right into your face.
Then, in a couple of months, the same game begins to collect dust on the shelves of retails, and the number of downloads on steam never becomes worth of note.
What happens? Enter the discount. 20% less. 50% less for a day. 25% plus a doll!
OR
the same game stays at ****ing 49 euros for months. But with numbers comes choice and STEAM has them all, so it strategically applies discounts wherever a game may sell more at a lower price and cover the losses of another one that won't sell even with 90% of discount.
in two words: Steam survives by managing the discounts and it's out of the hands of the publishers, who agree on it the moment they sign the agreement to put the game on their servers for download.
In fact... you will find a STEAM financial manager sitting at a chair in the middle of a dark chamber at the center of AMNESIA.
