You have to let you go when you play, to become a part of the game. a friend of me didn't and no surprise that he wasn't frightening then. not only "alone in the dark", also "me in the dark". hope you understand me 
Well, in defense of VampLena, I have to say that I generally wasn't scared in the way that the freakout collection people were. I think I screamed once during the game, and usually, I just had a fast heartbeat and trembling hands. I'm all for immersion but I won't pretend to have emotions I do not have.
Of course, I am a very studly man who weeps tears of granite and only at funerals for a culturally appropriate ten seconds.
I would call this game scary, and I would call myself scared, but not as in being afraid of the game. Just as in getting physical reactions that indicated that I was in a state of terror.
