The problem with peripherals is that people want to succeed, and if they know that the monster can hear you on a mic, they're going to add an element of muting/muffling the mic to gain an immersion-breaking out-of-game advantage.

EDIT: just like they used and abused the pause/menu button to collect themselves when shocked and scared.

True, but that's more a player problem that's just going to take self discipline.
